New pathway discovered in Parkinson’s disease
December 13, 2013
Dr. L. Miguel Martins and his team at the Medical Research Council (MRC) Toxicology Unit have uncovered a new metabolic pathway associated with damaged mitochondria. Manipulation of this pathway blocked neurodegeneration in models of Parkinson’s disease (PD). This metabolic network may be targeted to treat PD and potentially other diseases linked to mitochondrial impairment. This study will be published in Nature Cell Biology (in press).
